No, Tranq shot will never - read my lips here: NEVER - be of use while taming. The only two shots that might possibly prove useful while taming is Concussive to pull the mob. Thus allowing you more time before the mob hits the trap. Or, Wyvern Sting, which would actually be alot less useful, since it only provides 12 seconds of CC tops. Scorpid Sting might help if the mob isn't trappable and you need to take all the punishment.

Edited, Jul 5th 2007 6:39pm by anyone found a use for tranq shot yet? I have tried to use it a couple of times on various mobs and to no avail... Seems to me that it is kinda worthless so far at lvl 63. Unless I want to target a BM pet and Shoot it just for it to proc again after 2 hits...
Basically the reason I ask this is because if there is no use for it really yet then I might as well take it off my quick bar until I find something to use it
